Road to Revelation: Genesis - The Flood

 Genesis 4-11

Mankind quickly descended into wickedness and evil thoughts so God decided to start again but there is one man who  puts his faith in God so for the sake of this one man, Noah, God  decided to rescue Noah and his family and anyone else who trusts Him.   Key Verse: Genesis 6: 6-8

But Noah and his family were also corrupted by sin (through his forefathers according to the promise in ch. 2) and things go south again after the flood (ch. 9, 10 and 11)

Extra Reading: Noah and his family escaped God’s judgement through the water by boat.  This is the earliest picture of baptism.  Those who  were in the water perished but Noah passed through the water because of God’s promise.  When we are baptised we are illustrating “perishing” in the water but then being raised again to new life because of God’s promises to us.   See Colossians 2:11-12

Takeaway:   Although people’s sinfulness makes God angry He is not willing to completely destroy mankind.  Yes He will do what is right and judge us for our sin [if we do not repent] but he is more interested in providing us with a rescue plan because He knows we cannot rescue ourselves.  See  2 Peter 3:6-9
